Trump Delivers on Campaign Promises
One Big Beautiful Bill: President Donald Trump called it a “historic win” as he signed the sweeping legislation into law on July 4. As the country celebrated its 249th birthday, Trump said, “America is winning, winning, winning like never before.”
Important campaign pledges like long-term tax cuts, significant military spending, and unheard-of immigration enforcement are all cemented by the law.
Deep Tax Cuts Across the Board
The bill includes over $4.5 trillion in tax reductions:
- Makes Trump-era tax cuts permanent
- Adds new deductions for tips, overtime, and car loans
- Raises child tax credit from $2,000 to $2,200
- Adds a $6,000 deduction for seniors earning under $75,000
- Increases the SALT deduction cap to $40,000 for five years
- Allows businesses to write off 100% of equipment and research costs
While the wealthiest benefit most, low-income households could lose up to $1,600 annually, primarily due to Medicaid and food aid reductions.
Immigration Crackdown and Border Security
A whopping $350 billion will fund Trump’s border and deportation agenda:
- More money for the U.S.-Mexico border wall
- 100,000 migrant detention beds
- Hiring of 10,000 new ICE agents with $10K bonuses
- Increased fees on asylum applications
Trump’s target: deporting 1 million undocumented immigrants per year.
Military and Missile Defense Investments
The bill infuses billions into national defense:
- Expands Pentagon shipbuilding and weapons systems
- Adds quality-of-life programs for servicemembers
- $1 billion allocated to border security from the Defense budget
- $25 billion starts development of Trump’s “Golden Dome” missile defense system
Medicaid Cuts and Work Requirements
To offset spending, Medicaid and SNAP (food stamps) face deep cuts:
- New 80-hour monthly work requirements for adults (including some up to age 65)
- $35 co-pay for Medicaid services
- Temporary halt to Medicaid payments to family planning providers like Planned Parenthood
More than 71 million use Medicaid and 40 million rely on SNAP.
Rollbacks on Clean Energy
Key Biden-era clean energy tax credits are repealed:
- EV tax credits end September 30, 2025
- Wind and solar credits limited, especially if sourced from China
New Provisions: ‘Trump Accounts’ and More
Additional highlights include:
- New $1,000 ‘Trump Accounts’ savings program for kids
- 1% tax on remittances sent abroad
- New taxes on university endowments
- $200 tax removed from silencers and short-barreled firearms
- Billions for Artemis moon mission and Mars exploration
- $88 million for pandemic response accountability
- $5 trillion increase to the national debt limit
What’s Next?
According to the Congressional Budget Office, the bill will add $3.3 trillion to the national deficit over 10 years. While Republicans hail it as visionary, critics warn of growing inequality and environmental setbacks.
