Jasmine Crockett Greg Abbott: Rep. Randy Weber Moves to Censure Crockett Over Remarks About Texas Governor. The controversy stems from Crockett referring to Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels” during a speech at a Human Rights Campaign event in Los Angeles.
Weber’s draft resolution condemns Crockett’s remarks as inappropriate, calling for a formal reprimand.
Crockett Responds to Backlash
Crockett, a Texas Democrat, clarified her remarks on X (formerly Twitter), stating she didn’t intend to mock Abbott’s wheelchair use.
“I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition—I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable,” Crockett wrote.
She further added, “At no point did I mention or allude to his condition.”
Abbott’s Background
Governor Abbott, who has used a wheelchair since a 1984 accident left him partially paralyzed, has faced criticism for his policies on immigration and migrant transport programs. Crockett’s “hot a mess” comment was directed at these policies, not Abbott’s personal circumstances.
Weber’s Resolution and Next Steps
Weber is expected to introduce the resolution on Wednesday. He may choose to fast-track the measure by filing it as a privileged resolution, which would force a House vote within days.
This would mark the second Democratic censure attempt this month. Earlier, Republicans successfully censured Rep. Al Green for disrupting President Trump’s address to Congress.
With increasing partisan tensions, censures have become a more frequent tool in Congress. The resolution against Crockett will test the level of support Weber can garner from his GOP colleagues.
