UC Davis TPUSA event descended into chaos as masked protesters disrupted the gathering, damaging property and assaulting attendees. The event, featuring guest speaker Brandon Tatum, took place at Memorial Union Quad, where demonstrators flipped tables, destroyed a tent, and engaged in physical confrontations.
Protesters Clash with TPUSA Members
According to TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk, the protest escalated quickly as demonstrators tore down signage and targeted TPUSA members.
“While our people were under attack, police stood aside and did nothing,” Kirk wrote on X.
Despite the violence, no medical aid was requested, and no arrests were made, according to a university statement. The event continued as planned, but tensions remained high.
UC Davis Addresses the Event
Despite acknowledging complaints of assault and disturbance, the UC Davis Police Department said the event was over without any more incidents. Critics counter that the institution ought to have taken greater action to stop the violence.
Demands Accountability
Kirk called for arrests after the incident, stating that inaction will incite further violence. Videos of demonstrators tearing down TPUSA’s event setup while brandishing a “ACAB” flag are making the rounds online.
Elon Musk, a billionaire, also expressed his opinion, describing the event as an instance of political violence.
What Comes Next?
Despite criticism, the UC Davis TPUSA branch is still determined to have conservative speakers. The argument over free speech and protests on college campuses is still going strong as political tensions increase.
